Color Swatch

Topic I haven't chosen a definite topic for my brochure yet, but I think it may be on different sports. I feel like it would be a good topic for me to create a brochure on because I know a lot about different sports, and I could use a lot of different geometric patterns that align with different sports (I.e. a diamond for baseball, an oval for a track, etc). There are also a lot of different colors I could use, so before I begin I would definitely decide on a color swatch that encompasses all of the topics that I decide to write about and that look good together.  Given the variety of different sports I could write about, I would decide on the ones that would make the most sense together, and not sports that have nothing to do with each other, for instance ice skating and football.  Even though they are both popular sports, they don't have many similarities with each other that would make for a good brochure.  Introduction The two above photos are the images that I used a...

Healing Brush Tool

Main Theme Idea As I talked about in my last blog post, I want to recreate a meme that is very popular on the internet, only replace the characters in the meme with the characters Jan Levinson and Michael Scott from the TV show The Office.  My original thought was pretty much to use the original meme as a sort of template, and make my own backgrounds for the new one, but upon learning more about the healing brush tools and other useful icons on Photoshop and also InDesign, I think I can cut out the characters from the original meme and insert the new characters in their place.  Healing Brush Tool Since I have now decided to keep the background of the original meme, using the healing brush tool was extremely helpful. It allowed me to cut out the both the woman and the cat so I could insert my new images in their place. Because I wanted to remove part of the image itself and not the background, I had to outline the background that I wanted so it would cut out the parts inside th...

Meme Post

For this assignment, I decided to do the meme of the woman who's yelling at the cat over dinner, but instead of the woman and the cat, to replace the woman with Jan from The Office yelling at Michael, who will replace the cat, sitting down.  For the caption I had Jan yelling at Michael to drink more water, and then Michael's character looking smug saying that he's on his third coffee of the day. I did this because I really like coffee and I definitely think that I should be drinking more water.  When I was composing this, I was making it extremely rough, just so I could get a feel for what the real one is going to end up looking like. I had to resize the two images of Michael and Jan, but to make sure that I "preserved the proportions," I had to make sure that when I was resizing them, the photo was highlighted.  Using the lasso tool was so helpful because "the tool tries to find image edges and automatically stops the selection there." All I had to do r...

Business Card

I can confidently say that after completing this assignment, making and designing a business card is harder than I initially thought.  Once I looked at the dimensions of a business card and shaped my card on Adobe InDesign, it was time for me to look at the rest of the directions on what to put onto my card. I decided that a good idea would be to put my school email and phone number on the card because that would probably be what would be on a regular card. I Googled myself and found a photo that my internship used for my feature on their website, so I copied that image and placed it on to the left of the text.  Editing It was weirdly dark, so I figured I had to change all the overall brightness of the photo by dragging the "gray Input Levels slider." (Kabili, 2018)  For the transparent image that we had to put somewhere on the card, I chose to go with my astrological sign, which is a Gemini. I'm not usually good at coming up with symbols to represent myself so I decided ...

Composition

Theme For me, deciding on a theme for this assignment was harder than I thought it was going to be. I was never the creative type when I was growing up, so it took some time for me to officially pick my subject. I decided to go with street signs on campus. Of course, there is no shortage of these on campus, and they are all in different places with different directions and different backgrounds.  Signs aren't necessarily the most interesting subject, but I think that they are most definitely very common. We see them and use them everyday but don't always acknowledge them other than following their rules.   I wanted to showcase their importance while also showing how they can make an engaging subject.  Working the Shot The first shot I wanted to showcase was a shot with DEPTH.    I understood depth as showing the subject in the center of the shot, but also showing the background that surrounds it. This sign shows a bright color, so I liked how it stuck out f...
